This Won’t Work on Me

When people are introduced to a new strategy to up their success, oftentimes they think it won’t work on them, and for good reason. Nothing to that point has really worked. So why should they believe the new thing is going to work? The concepts behind the Think It Be It program and the 12 minutes a day methodology are based on science, and the fact is they can work on anyone!

John and Kelly discuss the limiting beliefs people have when they are facing new strategies for success, why they fail, and how with the leveraging of science you can find the clarity in your life that you need to take yourself and your business to the next level.

John’s story is pretty amazing. After spending 20 years as an entrepreneur, John was 50 years old but wasn’t as successful as he thought he should be. To rectify that, he decided to find the “top book in the world” on SUCCESS and apply that book literally Word for Word to his life. That Book is Think & Grow Rich. The book says there’s a SECRET for success, but the author only gives you half the secret. John figured out the full secret and a 12 minute a day technique to apply it.

John Mitchell:

Hey, I'm doing great. Excellent. So

Kelly Hatfield:

today we're going to talk about the internal objections that you may have regarding appliance, applying science to your life to up your success, really, in essence, to leverage yourself. So John, why don't you talk a little bit about the internal objections that people may be having about our methodology? Right?

John Mitchell:

Well, I think it's pretty simple. The the objection is it won't work on me. Right? Right. Yeah. Well, and, and, you know, I tell you, I love it, when I get that one, because I'm like, really is not going to work on you. This is pure science, it can't not work, when he is not going to work on you. But But I understand that, you know, they've tried other stuff, you know, they've tried meditation, they've tried affirmations, they've tried, you know, a variety of strategies, and they just haven't, haven't worked. And so, you know, I've really understand that it won't work on me. And, and, you know, I see that all the other stuff sort of misses the point. And this is what is maybe different about our methodology. Everything else out there in the success and human achievement field is, is strategies, and oftentimes good, strange, like I've said before, but you know, people have strategies coming out three years thick, the key, and the only thing that makes a difference is when you can make those great strategies show up in your thoughts and actions automatically. So when people say, Well, you know, I've tried meditation, I've tried affirmations, I've tried this strategy, that strategy, it didn't work, because it wasn't affecting your unconscious daily actions, again, 95% of your actions are unconscious. And the only way you can influence your unconscious daily actions is through the repetition every day of the right actions. And so that's why it didn't work. And you know, I got a great analogy for you. Let's say that you and I want to go look at a sunset up on a mountain. Together, now, we probably have to get approval from our respective spouses with this, but let's say that we want to do that this and, and, and, you know, you pick the best mountain, in, in Washington state, and we decide, you're going to take your car to go up there to the mountain, I'm going to take my car, we're going to meet at sunset, we're going to watch the sunset, and well, off we go at the same time. And, and about an hour later, you're up at the top and you you're like Where's John? And and so you, you call me and I go, you know, I'm only about a fourth of the way up there. And, and like, well, what's wrong? And I go, Well, you know, I'm, I'm driving a jaguar, and I'm having trouble, you know, getting getting up. And I'm like, Well, what are you driving, where you're driving a jeep? Four wheel drive? Well, it's the vehicle, you know, the vehicle is wrong. And that's why oftentimes, what people have tried in the past hasn't worked is not their fault. I mean, you know, they're trying something that made sense at the time, but it's the wrong vehicle. And again, to me, the only valid vehicle is is something that influences your daily actions. And, and again, 95% of them are subconscious and I dare say that when people say it won't work on me. They've never actually had a methodology to influence those unconscious daily actions. Do you buy that?

Kelly Hatfield:

Oh, yeah. 100% buy it, you know. And I think the other thing too, I want to point out to people, you know, who may be thinking, Oh, this won't work for me. I've tried this, this and this before. That's, you know, and it didn't work. I want to point out we talked a little bit about the science before but this is one thing we haven't talked about, which is getting remember how we were talking about your brain being wired for fear for survive? Yeah, we're, its job is to protect you. So it sees like a potentially something on the horizon. That could be the could be change the could be. And so it also is throwing those things up in front of you that are causing you to think the way you're thinking to put the brakes on like, oh, my gosh, you know, this sounds really exciting. And but your brain is like, oh, my gosh, no, we're really comfy and cozy exactly where we're at. Now. Right? You know, it's

John Mitchell:

Java, we're not as successful as they want to be. We're cozy.

Kelly Hatfield:

Exactly. You're in that place of complacency, which is where dreams go to die.

John Mitchell:

Yeah, right. Right. Right.

Kelly Hatfield:

So just also remembering to the bad thing that's happening that says, Oh, this won't work. For me. It's one of the things your brain is designed to do. And so it's trying to protect you, too. So anyway, I wanted to point that out. Because that place of complacency is again, I joke, but it's true. It's where right now, it's where mediocrity and the average life live?

John Mitchell:

Well, and you know, I tell you what's so interesting, we have a new client, that is a big time guy in the personal development space, he's got a big following. And as I pointed out to him, I said, you know, what you're teaching people is really good stuff. It really is. But all you're doing is impacting their intention, you know, as you tell them this strategy and that strategy, you're impacting their intention. We've got to get that, that, that those strategies to show up in the thoughts and actions automatically, because when you combine his great strategies with our methodology of making it show up automatically, without thinking in, in their daily thoughts and actions, total game changer. And so it's and you know, it's, it's cool to watch the light go on with him, because he sees Wow, that's right. That's right, if I can now take my brilliant strategies and make it show up automatically in my, my clients, heads. That's the game changer. And so I see that, that oftentimes people who, who say, it won't work on me, it's really we just got to change their false beliefs. They had the false belief that if I just work hard, it'll all work out. I bet you don't you don't believe that? Do you? No,

Kelly Hatfield:

no, I'm, it's all about working smart. You know, and that, but I did have that belief, you know, the belief that you work, you just work hard and grind it out. And then you'll get good results, you'll get results as a, you know, you'll get your outcomes as a result of working really hard.

John Mitchell:

Well, and then the other the other false belief people have is that they believe that they control their daily actions. No, no, you control your intentions, not your daily actions, you don't consciously control your daily actions, because 95% of them are unconscious. And so the idea that you control your daily actions, consciously is not true. And and, and then the next thing that sort of comes up is, well, okay, so So the vast majority of my daily actions are unconscious. Well, well, I don't control that. I don't control my autopilot. Well, yeah, you do. You know, right.

Kelly Hatfield:

Totally. Yeah, absolutely. And that was, again, that that control piece, and I know, we've talked about this before, but for me, that was a real distinction that was made, which was I thought that I was controlling my autopilot, my thoughts, my actions, it wasn't till I understood that now, the only thing I control is my intentions. And then 95% of the rest of it is happening, you know, on autopilot, and that I absolutely can control that. There was a there was a real disconnect for me there, you know,

John Mitchell:

right, right. And you know, the other thing that people say oftentimes is, I don't have any real discipline. Well, you don't have discipline doing it the way you're doing it now. But like use, like you say, you know, discipline is just knowing what's important and why. And when you're feeding that to yourself every day, suddenly you have discipline, right?

Kelly Hatfield:

Yeah, absolutely. And I think a common thing that we hear to, you know, our that we recognize and working with people have this idea of where I start something, but I don't finish it, you know, or, well, again, this goes back to that discipline. You know, and if you're trying to do it, like I was, I'm told in my prior stories, where, you know, I've had the best intentions, you know, but wasn't didn't have the discipline, to continue to do it consistently enough to get the outcomes. That was just frustrating. And I did, I just didn't think I have the discipline needed to, you know, it wasn't until this methodology came through that I'm like, Oh, my gosh, I get what discipline is and why I wasn't disciplined before. So right, right. Yeah, that's, I mean, as I believe, a false belief a lot of people have I know, it was one of mine. Right?

John Mitchell:

Again, just the wrong vehicle. Yeah. And, you know, I tell you just to go a little deeper here, as we sort of wrap up. You know, one thing I know, we see, with so many of our clients, we ask them to rate their marriage, and they'll rate it at a, maybe a five, that's, that's normal, but we see. And I'm like, wow. That is unfortunate, because you know, that marriage affects your happiness more than any other external thing. And I think people have the, the false belief that they can't change their marriage. And, and that is so unfortunate to have that belief, and But firstly, they can change their marriage. And, you know, as we work with people, we show them, if you change, your partner can't help, but change and, and so that belief that you can materially improve your marriage is such an unfortunate false belief to have and, and so, you know, I maybe, to, like wrap this up, I just think that it comes down to a choice is your thinking about this. And if you have doubts, or you're not sure it will work, it will work. Because again, this is like nothing else in the success and human achievement field, we're applying something that goes right at your daily actions and your daily actions, the cumulative effect is what determines your success in each area of your life. And so you have a choice, you know, you can stick with the false belief that by working hard, it'll all work out. And you can stay earning 200 300,000 hours a year and stay stressed out and not in control of your life. Or just the opposite. You can you can apply a proven system for doubling your income within a year and rewiring your autopilot. And and it's really up to you. And and it's you know, so often I see that, and this is the coolest thing of all, is people change your identity from being a person who perceives that their autopilot controls them to now they see they control their autopilot. What a game changer that that is. Would you agree with that?

Kelly Hatfield:

Oh, 100% I mean, that's the that's the secret to all of this is, you know, again, going back to what we talked about that 95% of your thoughts being unconscious, meaning you're on autopilot, as soon as you are influencing that. Life opens up, right, we talk about, you know, the the exceptional life? Well, you know, this is where this is where it begins is in your ability to influence those daily actions and your ongoing thoughts and daily actions in that autopilot, so

John Mitchell:

Right, right. Well, and you know, it's, again, if you have that internal belief that it won't work on on you understand that that's probably normal. And, and it's not your fault.
